The Story Behind Arsenic in Organic Brown Rice Products (Video)

Soooo...did you hear that some organic brown rice products contain arsenic? Yep, at least that's what a study says, and it's pretty frightening if you don't know all the details. Fortunately it seems we don't have much to worry about, and here's why:

Haven't had time yet to do a write up, but this video review of M Cafe de Chaya in Los Angeles should speak for itself (for now).

Cooking with Eric Lechasseur

As a result of being one of Seed Kitchen's best customers I've come to know the chef and owners very well: Eric Lechassuer and Sanae Suzuki. Recently they asked me to help them with cooking videos, and they came out very well.

Shojin - my 1st time

Just about a year ago my sister visited me from Massachusetts, and we decided to start doing video reviews of the restaurants I took her to (that was the beginning of my video series!). She was only here for a week, but we managed to go to about 15 places! Though we recorded each one, I haven't finished them all, even a year later!

So here's an oldie, but a goodie - my first time at Shojin. You may notice that my style has changed a little since then, especially that I started using a better mic!

Shojin is about to have their 2nd birthday on March 5th, so I hope I inspire you to go! You may have seen the video of my second time to Shojin because I edited that much faster - if not, please click to view.

We enjoyed:
  • iced green tea
  • cauliflower soup
  • bento box (with okara cake and tempeh)
  • green tea ice cream
Taste: 8/10
Unique menu & flavors: yes
Organic: yes
Healthy: yes (macrobiotic, no refined sugar, no chemicals)
Customer service: excellent
Atmosphere: beautiful, cozy
Parking: free in garage with validation
Price: moderate

J's Kitchen in Venice (Los Angeles)

A new vegan, macrobiotic restaurant just opened last weekend on Abbot Kinney in Venice and I can't wait to try it (and see if I love it as much as Seed). Be sure to check out J's Kitchen - their website as of today does not have much info except:

Location: 1239 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Venice, CA 90291
Open: Mon. to Fri. 7:00am to 3:00pm

I'm looking forward to seeing their menu!

UPDATE: Their hours make no sense! Every-time I want to go there, they're closed! Unless I go before work, I'll never make it!
Here's a picture of their menu - not sure if this is all they offer, but it's not much.

Seed Kitchen: vegan restaurant (Los Angeles)

I passed by a new vegan/organic/macrobiotic restaurant called Seed Kitchen in Venice and I'm eager to try it out (when I'm done eating Raw).

UPDATE: I went to Seed today (and temporarily broke my Raw diet!) and it was delicious! Even my non-vegan friend thought so. We both had paninis: I the italian soysage, and her the soyzzarella, tomato and basil. I resisted the dessert, but it all looked great. They even have soft serve! Can't wait to try the cupcakes.
